Zippo Handwarmer - almost identical to a Hakkin PeacockFeb 24, 2007
By The Z
"The Z"
I believe that the Zippo pocket handwarmer is made by the same Japanese company that makes the "Peacock"- The Hakkin company of Japan.
The hole pattern on the top of the Zippo warmer has a hole patterm similar to the chimney on a Zippo lighter. The Peacock has a hole pattern shaped like a Peacock, and is more elegant.
The Zippo filler flask is ok, but the one supplied with the Peacock is superior. It is a funnel with a valve that fits on the fill area of the unit. When the funnel is rotated 90 degrees, the valve opens and fluid is inserted with no spillage. Not so with the Zippo filler flask.
The bag for the Peacock is a drawstring closure, where Zippo uses velcro. The Zippo bag has a big Zippo label on it, where the Peacock does not and is more formal (I prefer the simpler style). The Zippo bag is black, while the Peacock bag is green (shows less pocket lint than black)
The burners -- Both units share the same burner - which Hakkin offers individually. However the Zippo burner is stamped "Zippo" as is the base of the unit with a huge "Zippo".
The quality of the Peacock & Zippo is superior to that of the Jon-E.
For the similar price of the units, get the Peacock. The Zippo is a close second due to cosmetics and accessories.
Also, any brand of lighter fuel can be used (you don't have to use zippo fuel)

Marvelous hand warmerDec 18, 2006
By Brian L. Peterson Compared to other "similar" warmers I have used in the past, this device shows typical Zippo quality and attention to detail. Easy to fill, using the included measuring device for half- or full-day warmth. Easy to light, with a color-change heat detector on the cap to verify ignition. And, just as advertised, produces abundant warmth for hours. No leaks, no problems, just heat. My wife loves it for her hands and even tucks it into the small of her back when she is extra chilly. Highly recommended!

This is HOT STUFF!Nov 10, 2008

I bought a pair of the Zippo hand warmers and with great results. I have extremely cold fingers during the Fall and Winter. They turn numb constantly when I'm outside. Gloves help very little. The Zippo's fire up and get hot. One definetly must use the protective bag or the Zippo becomes a "HOT POTATO". With the bag its perfect! I even use the Zippo under my hat to keep my half bald head warm. Use it for anything that gets cold.
I would recommed the Zippo hand warmer to anybody who needs one.

Ummm, warm!Jan 01, 2008
By Robert Clark This Zippo Hand Warmer does exactly as advertised. That is, it gives off very welcome heat for several hours after you start it -- something I enjoyed on a cold New year's Eve. You fill it with lighter fluid using the little measuring device that comes with it. Then you light it. Then you put it into its little pouch and stick it in your pocket, where it reliably provides you with hours of delicious heat. That's it. Get one if your hands are cold.

Peacock burns warmer, zippo burns longerDec 30, 2006
By bay driver I've used two Zippo hand warmers for about 5 years now, and swore by them....until, the burners failed and I realized that Zippo doesn't sell new ones, which means you have to buy a new one or write the company (which I did) and hope they send you a replacement. I called Zippo and someone told me to send in the old burners and they would send replacements. I did this and nothing came for a year, so I called back and they sent two right out. THE MAIN REASON FOR THIS REVIEW IS TO SAY: I found two old Peacock hand-warmers whose burners had also failed years ago and found a company in U.K. that sold them. I bought two for $8 and fired up the warmers after the burners came. I was delighted to find that the Peacocks gave off about twice as much heat. Even though they last half as long, you can still manage to get 8 hours of great heat for those times you need it. Couldn't find any in the states, but you can get them from the U.K. at :<...>
