Great telescope but it needs a real finderscope.May 16, 2010

This is a nicely built telescope overall, with included dual-axis motor drive and a pretty steady EQ mount. Its optics are pretty sharp too. For the price on Amazon, it's really a great deal.
However, my biggest problem with this is its red dot finder. I've used a large dobsonian for a long time, and it's crucial to have a good finderscope so you can navigate the night sky easily. Sometimes it's crucial for star hopping to a deep-sky object. However, the red dot finder does not have any magnification, making it useless for star hopping under urban sky. What's even more annoying is the battery powered red dot finder sometimes is so bright that it makes it harder to find objects. The two dark circles that are supposed to help locate the object in the center of the finder can't be easily seen at night. Celestron should seriously consider using an ordinary 7x50 finderscope on this otherwise great telescope.

Astro Mmaster 130EQ MDJul 19, 2010
By Berksglh Nice Scope for the price. decent optics. Tripod is a bit flimsy, there is some play in one axis (loose gear mesh). Motor drive can't be engaged at any position, and is sometimes hard to get at the screw to do so.
Was hoping for more viewing power to see the planets, Saturn is a fuzzy dot with a line through it, and the 1.25" focuser is to small for good camera use.
Wishing I would have bought a larger scope, with a 2" focusing system, and better mount and tripod.
But it is a decent entry level scope, and not overly expensive.

UnusableSep 26, 2010
By Left Ear of Corn Finderscope is so terrible and unusable that the entire telescope can be used only by randomly looking around. At least it was (relatively) cheap. I suppose buying more eye pieces would make finding objects easier, but I didn't expect to have to do that right away in order for the product to be usable.

Big DissappointmentDec 27, 2010
By First Time Celestron Purchaser
"berts_mama"
I purchased the item for Christmas as my son's Christmas gift from Costco and the tripod broke within days when my husband was trying to fold it. In addition to the disappointment of a bad Christmas present our whole family has endured, when I contacted Celestron, they asked me to pack and mail the whole Telescope back for service, instead of just the tripod. Obviously, Celestron's customer service goes by with the belief that if enough troubles are created for the purchasers, they will go away with bad products.
I was not impressed by the quality of the product but the services Celeston provides is even worse. This is the first time I purchase from Celestron and it will definitely be the last time.
dissapointingDec 25, 2011
By John Bierens I found this product to be disappointing the red dote finder to be useless, the optics not very good for planets other than the moon, the rest are just round fuzzes, the mount to be flimsy and too much backlash in the worm gears. The motor gets in the way a high viewing angles, I can not see the phases of venus, I can see 2 very faint equatorial bands on Jupiter using highest magnification and filters. I have tried columizing the mirrors with a too form Celestron with no effect. I have purchased a case of lenses and filters form Celestron, I replaced the red dot finder with a telerad. and except for viewing the moon this product is useless for all the money that I have put in to it.
I DO NOT recommend this product at an price.
